PUBG Studios and Krafton have announced that support for the PlayStation 4 (PS4) and Xbox One versions of PUBG: Battlegrounds will officially end on November 13, 2025. Moving forward, the game will only be playable on PC, PlayStation 5 (PS5), and Xbox Series X|S, marking a significant shift to current-generation hardware. This decision, while bittersweet for long-time players, is aimed at enhancing the game’s performance and ensuring its longevity.
The decision to discontinue support for PS4 and Xbox One comes as part of PUBG Studios’ 2025 roadmap, which focuses on leveraging the capabilities of current-generation consoles. Krafton has described this transition as a “necessary step” to align PUBG Console with the advanced hardware of the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The older consoles, which have powered PUBG since its console debut on Xbox One in 2017 and PS4 in 2018, are increasingly limiting the game’s technical progress. By moving to current-gen platforms, PUBG Studios aims to deliver a more stable gameplay environment, improved visuals, and smoother frame rates while reducing memory-related crashes.
The studio emphasized that this was not a decision made lightly. “It weighs heavily on us to deliver this news to our console players who have enjoyed PUBG on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One for so many years,” Krafton stated in a blog post on the official PUBG website. The move reflects a broader industry trend, with other live-service games like The First Descendant and Hunt: Showdown also dropping support for last-gen consoles in 2025.

Starting November 13, PUBG will cease to be downloadable or playable on PS4 and Xbox One due to scheduled live server maintenance, requiring players to upgrade to a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S to continue playing. Krafton has ensured a seamless transition by preserving all existing account data, including progress, cosmetics, and purchased items, which will be accessible on the new consoles without any separate transfer process—players can simply log in with their existing accounts. For PlayStation 5 users, a dedicated PS5 version of PUBG must be downloaded from the PlayStation Store, as the PS4 version will remain a separate, unplayable app. Xbox players, however, will benefit from Smart Delivery, automatically receiving the current-gen version if PUBG is already installed. The transition to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S introduces significant technical improvements, with the PS5 version running at 1440p resolution at 60 FPS, the PS5 Pro offering dynamic 4K resolution at 60 FPS, the Xbox Series X supporting dynamic 4K at 60 FPS, and the Xbox Series S providing a choice between 1080p at 60 FPS or 1440p at 30 FPS. These enhancements deliver sharper visuals, faster load times, and more stable performance, addressing issues like crashes and memory limitations while supporting future content updates to keep PUBG competitive in the battle royale genre.
