Geekom Unveils A9 Mega with AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395, Up to 128GB Memory, and Radeon 8060S iGPU

Geekom has officially announced its latest innovation, the Geekom A9 Mega, a compact mini PC that promises to redefine performance standards in the mini PC market. This powerhouse is equipped with AMD’s cutting-edge Ryzen AI Max+ 395 Strix Halo APU, delivering desktop-class performance in a sleek, aluminum chassis. Designed for gamers, AI developers, and creative professionals, the A9 Mega combines high-end hardware, robust AI capabilities, and extensive connectivity, positioning it as a serious competitor to larger workstations and even Apple’s Mac Studio.

At the heart of the Geekom A9 Mega lies the AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 Strix Halo APU, featuring 16 Zen 5 cores and 32 threads, paired with the Radeon 8060S iGPU based on RDNA 3.5 architecture with 40 compute units. This APU delivers CPU performance comparable to high-end processors like the Ryzen 9 7945HX and GPU performance that rivals Nvidia’s RTX 4070 Laptop GPU, making it a game-changer for compact systems. The A9 Mega supports up to 128 GB of LPDDR5X-8000 memory, with up to 96 GB dynamically allocatable to the GPU, enabling exceptional performance for gaming, 3D rendering, and local AI workloads.

The system’s XDNA 2 NPU provides up to 126 TOPS of AI performance, making it ideal for running large language models (LLMs) like Stable Diffusion or LLaMA locally. This capability positions the A9 Mega as a potent tool for AI developers and content creators who need to process complex AI tasks without relying on cloud infrastructure. Geekom claims the A9 Mega can even handle models as large as gpt-oss:120b, showcasing its prowess in AI-driven applications.

The Geekom A9 Mega measures 171 x 171 x 71 mm (6.7 x 6.7 x 2.8 inches), making it one of the smaller systems to house such a high-performance processor. Its aluminum chassis with CNC details not only exudes a premium, Apple-esque aesthetic but also ensures durability. Despite its compact size, the A9 Mega is designed to handle the 120-watt TDP of the Strix Halo APU, thanks to an advanced cooling system that keeps performance stable under heavy workloads.

While not a direct clone, the A9 Mega’s design draws parallels to the Mac Studio, with a sleek, minimalist look that fits seamlessly into professional or home environments. Unlike some competitors, Geekom has prioritized both form and function, ensuring the A9 Mega is both visually appealing and capable of sustained high performance.

The A9 Mega boasts a comprehensive array of ports, catering to a wide range of use cases. It includes:

  • Multiple USB ports, including two USB4 ports for high-speed data transfer and external device connectivity.

  • HDMI 2.1 for supporting high-resolution displays, up to 8K.

  • Dual 2.5 GB LAN for robust networking capabilities.

  • Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 for cutting-edge wireless connectivity.

Additionally, the system features two M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 x4 SSD slots, allowing for user-upgradeable storage of up to 4 TB, though the memory is soldered and non-upgradeable. This extensive connectivity makes the A9 Mega suitable for gaming, professional workstations, and even server-like applications.

Geekom has positioned the A9 Mega as a premium yet accessible option, with a starting price of $1,899 through a Kickstarter campaign.
