OneXPlayer Showcases OneXfly Apex Handheld, Featuring Ryzen AI Max+ 395, 8-Inch Display

The OneXPlayer OneXfly Apex is a premium, upcoming gaming handheld announced by One-Netbook (the parent company behind the OneXPlayer brand). It’s positioned as a flagship device targeting hardcore gamers, powered by AMD’s top-tier Strix Halo APU for desktop-like performance in a portable form factor. This is the third Strix Halo-based handheld revealed so far, following GPD’s Win 5 and AYANEO’s Next 2, but OneXPlayer emphasizes higher power limits and innovative cooling. While full specifications aren’t finalized, here’s a comprehensive breakdown based on official teases and early reports.

The AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 (Strix Halo APU) powers this handheld gaming device with 16 Zen 5 CPU cores, 32 threads, and a Radeon 8060S integrated GPU featuring 40 RDNA 3.5 Compute Units, leveraging a double-wide 256-bit memory bus for discrete-level graphics performance and supporting up to a 120W TDP for high-end gaming. It features an 8-inch native landscape IPS or OLED display (panel type unconfirmed) with a 120Hz refresh rate and Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) support, likely offering 1080p or higher resolution to avoid orientation issues seen in portrait-first handhelds. The device supports up to 128GB of soldered LPDDR5X RAM and includes a PCIe Gen4 M.2 SSD slot alongside proprietary BiWin Mini SSD support for expandable, high-speed storage with read speeds up to 7GB/s. Audio is delivered through dual Harman-tuned stereo speakers, and controls include hall-effect analog sticks with RGB backlighting, adjustable multi-stage analog triggers with linear and clicky modes, and ergonomic grips. Connectivity likely includes USB4/Thunderbolt ports, a microSD slot, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 5.4, based on prior OneXPlayer models, with full port details pending. Running Windows 11, it may support SteamOS or custom UI optimizations. While dimensions and weight are not officially revealed, the device is expected to be compact, around 300g or less, with a clamshell-like form factor similar to the OneXfly series.

The control system features a classic layout with ABXY face buttons, dual joysticks, a D-Pad, and adjustable multi-stage triggers, combining analog and micro switch functionality. It supports mini SSD storage, though detailed specs remain undisclosed. Battery life is a key point of interest, and whether it will have a detachable battery like the GPD WIN 5 is yet to be confirmed, with more details expected soon.

Update: OneXfly APEX reportedly offers an 85Wh removable battery.
