Kingston Fury Unveils Renegade G5 SSD Featuring 8TB Capacity and Blazing Read Speeds of Up to 14,800 MB/s

Kingston FURY, a division of Kingston Technology, has recently announced the expansion of its acclaimed Renegade G5 PCIe 5.0 NVMe M.2 SSD lineup with the introduction of an 8TB capacity option, marking it as the company’s largest-capacity client PCIe 5.0 drive to date. This high-end storage solution is tailored for power users, gamers, video editors, 3D renderers, and professionals handling demanding workflows that require both extreme speed and substantial storage for large files like high-fidelity videos and expansive game libraries. The Renegade G5 series, which previously offered 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB variants, now includes this 8192GB model, doubling the maximum capacity while preserving top-tier performance metrics. Leveraging the latest PCIe Gen5 x4 interface, the drive delivers sequential read speeds of up to 14,800 MB/s and write speeds of up to 14,000 MB/s, alongside random 4K read/write IOPS exceeding 2.2 million, ensuring seamless system responsiveness even under heavy loads.

At the heart of the Renegade G5’s capabilities is the Silicon Motion SM2508 controller, built on a 6nm lithography process for enhanced efficiency, paired with advanced 218-layer BiCS8 3D TLC NAND flash memory. This combination is complemented by a low-power DDR4 DRAM cache, an independent Buck IC for stable power delivery, and a 12-layer PCB design that bolsters signal integrity and data reliability. The SSD supports Microsoft’s DirectStorage technology, facilitating faster game loading times on compatible systems, and features an optimized thermal management system to maintain consistent performance without throttling during prolonged use. Backward compatibility with PCIe Gen3 and Gen4 motherboards ensures broad accessibility, though it shines brightest in Gen5-enabled setups like modern desktops and notebooks—not intended for server environments.

Physically, the Renegade G5 adheres to the compact M.2 2280 form factor, measuring 80mm x 22mm, with the 8TB model’s height slightly increased to 3.65mm to accommodate its denser internals, weighing in at 9.2g. Power consumption remains efficient, with an average idle draw of just 0.27W and peak usage up to 9.5W during intensive operations, making it suitable for both high-performance gaming rigs and portable laptops. Endurance ratings are robust, rated at 8.0 PB of total bytes written (TBW) for the 8TB variant, supported by a mean time between failures (MTBF) of 2,000,000 hours. Vibration resistance includes 2.17G peak during operation and 20G peak when idle, operating reliably from 0°C to 70°C and storable between -40°C and 85°C.

The announcement, detailed in Kingston’s official press release on November 3, 2025, highlights the drive’s role in empowering enthusiasts who demand uncompromised storage without sacrificing speed. While exact pricing for the 8TB model has not been disclosed, it is expected to command a premium due to its cutting-edge specs and capacity, following the trend of earlier Renegade G5 variants that have earned awards for their balance of performance and efficiency. Availability is rolling out now through Kingston’s authorized channels, backed by a limited five-year warranty and complimentary technical support, underscoring Kingston’s commitment to reliability in the rapidly evolving PCIe 5.0 storage landscape.
