Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA VI), the highly anticipated open-world action-adventure game developed by Rockstar Games, has recently been delayed once again, with the official release date now set for November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, followed by a PC version at a later date. This marks the second postponement for the title, which was initially slated for a fall 2025 launch before slipping to May 2026, as confirmed by Rockstar in their Newswire announcement on November 7, 2025.
The delay stems from Rockstar’s commitment to delivering a polished experience, with Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick expressing high confidence in the new timeline while emphasizing that rushing the game could lead to suboptimal results. First teased in December 2023 with a cinematic trailer that broke YouTube records for views in 24 hours, GTA VI is set in a fictionalized version of the state of Leonida (inspired by Florida), featuring protagonists Lucia and her partner Jason in a Bonnie-and-Clyde-inspired narrative centered on crime, heists, and satire of American culture. The game promises expansive online multiplayer elements, advanced AI, dynamic weather, and a massive map drawing from Vice City and surrounding areas, building on the success of GTA V, which has sold over 200 million copies since 2013. Employee discussions and leaks have highlighted crunch concerns at Rockstar, but the studio assures fans that the extra time will enhance immersion and technical fidelity.
Pre-orders are expected to open closer to launch, and while no further delays have been hinted at, the gaming community is buzzing with reactions ranging from disappointment over the wait to excitement for what could be Rockstar’s magnum opus.
