Cyberpunk 2077 Multiplayer Mod Hits Major Milestone With Its Most Stable Beta Yet

The Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer mod, known as CyberMP, has made significant strides in its development, with the latest closed beta test—its sixth overall—described by the team as exceeding all expectations and marking one of the most successful milestones in the project’s history. Developed by a dedicated community team of around 10 members, CyberMP aims to bring multiplayer functionality to the game, filling the void left by CD Projekt Red’s decision to cancel its official multiplayer plans shortly after the game’s troubled 2020 launch in order to prioritize single-player refinements and expansions like Phantom Liberty. Work on the mod began prior to 2024 and was officially announced last year, transforming Cyberpunk 2077 into a shared Night City experience more akin to GTA Online—focusing on free-roam exploration, competitive events, and player-versus-player action rather than co-op story quests or campaign synchronization, which remain single-player only.

The recent beta test, detailed in an official announcement on the project’s Discord server and showcased in a YouTube video titled “CyberMP Beta-Test Results,” targeted several key improvements following extensive reworks to core systems. Primary objectives included verifying enhanced synchronization for players and vehicles, ensuring seamless translation across all connected screens with more responsive on-foot movement and smoother vehicle handling; introducing and testing a new interface overlay that enables chat functions, world teleportation, and custom lobby creation for races and battles; evaluating the platform’s overall resilience and stability under load; testing a fresh JavaScript module; and confirming the CyberMP server’s functionality on Linux, where minor bugs were quickly addressed with further optimizations planned.

Results were overwhelmingly positive, with the developers stating, “The results exceeded all expectations,” and confidently declaring, “In summary, we can confidently say this was the most stable and successful test in the project’s history.” Only a handful of game client crashes occurred over several days—fewer than anticipated and some unrelated to the CyberMP client itself—while all discovered gameplay bugs were either immediately fixed or in the process of resolution, leading the team to proclaim, “We feel we’re reaching a new level and are preparing for even more extensive changes.” This stability allowed for fluid testing of PvP deathmatches and high-speed races, demonstrating the mod’s potential for intense, large-scale player conflicts.

Accompanying footage in the official YouTube video and articles highlights these successes vividly: a race event unfolds with precise vehicle physics and client-side synchronization, feeling “fun” and remarkably smooth; PvP showdowns erupt on expansive maps not found in the vanilla game, delivering engaging chaos amid Night City’s neon sprawl; and casual cruising sequences underscore the free-roam viability, all while the new overlay facilitates real-time communication and quick navigation. The video, set to atmospheric music with lyrics evoking the game’s cyberpunk themes like “We’ll never fade away” and “I’m your demon never leaving,” credits artist Glitch for its production and directs viewers to the Discord for deeper insights.

Currently PC-exclusive with no confirmed console support, CyberMP shows no firm release date, though the team’s rapid progress and teasers of “lots of exciting stuff ahead” suggest a public rollout could be imminent, potentially as early as late 2025 based on prior optimistic updates. Fans can track developments, join tests, or support via Patreon and Boosty on the official Discord, or the CyberMP YouTube channel.
