Modders have uncovered hidden multiplayer functionalities within the PC version of Stellar Blade, revealing that developer Shift Up had at some point considered incorporating both co-op and PvP modes into the game. These features were ultimately not included in the final release. The discovery emerged from datamining efforts focused on the recently released PC demo. Modder PhantomSomnus identified references to multiplayer elements in the game files. By spawning a second character, the game transitioned into a split-screen view, suggesting that local co-op gameplay was once contemplated. Additionally, mentions of PvP modes were found, indicating plans for competitive multiplayer features.
It’s important to note that the split-screen functionality is a built-in feature of Unreal Engine and was not specifically developed by Shift Up for Stellar Blade. While these findings point to previously considered multiplayer options, there is currently no official indication that such modes will be introduced in future updates. However, the PC modding community may explore ways to activate or expand upon these hidden features.
Given the game’s success on PlayStation 5 and the anticipation surrounding its PC release, it’s plausible that Shift Up might revisit multiplayer concepts in a potential sequel. For now, these discoveries offer an intriguing glimpse into the game’s development history and the features that were ultimately set aside.
