AMD has officially discontinued its iconic Wraith Prism and Wraith Spire CPU coolers, which have been staples in the Ryzen ecosystem since their debut with the Ryzen 2000 series in 2018. This decision, effective as of August 1, 2025, impacts select processors in the Ryzen 5000, 7000, and 8000G series, marking the end of an era for these popular stock cooling solutions.
Introduced in 2018, the Wraith Prism (model SR4) and Wraith Spire (model SR2a) were designed to provide efficient and aesthetically pleasing cooling solutions for AMD Ryzen processors. The Wraith Prism, known for its customizable RGB lighting and robust heatsink, was bundled with higher-end CPUs like the Ryzen 9 7900 and Ryzen 7 7700. The Wraith Spire, while lacking RGB, offered solid thermal performance for mid-range processors such as the Ryzen 7 8700G and Ryzen 5 3400G. Both coolers were praised for their near-silent operation and ability to handle stock CPU performance without the need for aftermarket cooling, unless overclocking was involved.
In contrast, AMD’s Wraith Stealth (model SR1) is a smaller, less powerful cooler without RGB lighting, often paired with lower-tier CPUs like the Ryzen 5 5600X and Ryzen 5 7600. While sufficient for basic usage, it lacks the thermal capacity and visual appeal of its larger counterparts.

AMD has updated the product IDs for several Ryzen CPUs, reflecting the phase-out of the Wraith Prism and Wraith Spire. According to reports, the changes are as follows:
Boxed CPUs (e.g., Ryzen 9 7900, Ryzen 7 7700): These high-end processors will no longer include any cooler, requiring users to purchase aftermarket cooling solutions.
MPK CPUs (e.g., Ryzen 7 8700G, Ryzen 5 3400G): These models will now ship with the Wraith Stealth cooler instead of the Wraith Spire.
Affected Series: The discontinuation impacts select SKUs in the Ryzen 5000, 7000, and 8000G series, with updated product IDs indicating the new cooling configurations.
The decision, quietly implemented by AMD, was first spotted by tech insiders like @momomo_us, who noted the updated product IDs on AMD’s official website. Retailers, such as Japan’s Nojima, have already begun selling updated Ryzen 7 8700G and Ryzen 5 3400G processors with the Wraith Stealth cooler.

Due to the AMD SR2a and SR4 coolers reaching EOL status, select AMD Ryzen 8000G, Ryzen 7000 and 5000 Product ID MPK models are updated to include the AMD SR1 cooler, replacing the AMD SR2a cooler, starting 8/1/2025. These changes result in configurations that meet their original design specifications. Contact your local AMD Sales Representative for more information.
