AMD Unveils Ryzen Embedded 9000 series: Ryzen Embedded 9950X3D is 170W CPU with 16 Zen5 cores and 128MB L3 Cache

AMD has officially launched the Ryzen Embedded 9000 series processors, which are tailored versions of its mainstream Ryzen 9000 desktop CPUs but optimized for demanding embedded and industrial applications such as industrial PCs, automation systems, and machine vision setups. These processors emphasize long-term reliability and availability, offering up to seven years of guaranteed product lifecycle support to ensure consistent component supply for production runs in critical environments like medical systems and robotics. The series includes seven models that closely mirror their consumer counterparts: Ryzen Embedded 9950X3D, 9950X, 9900X3D, 9900X, 9800X3D, 9700X, and 9600X, all built on the Zen 5 architecture using a 4 nm process node for enhanced efficiency and performance.

The flagship Ryzen Embedded 9950X3D stands out with a 170 W TDP, 16 Zen 5 cores, 32 threads, a base clock of 4.3 GHz, a boost clock up to 5.7 GHz, and a massive 128 MB of L3 cache thanks to AMD’s 3D V-Cache technology, making it ideal for cache-sensitive workloads. Similarly, the Ryzen Embedded 9950X matches the core count and clocks but with 64 MB L3 cache. Stepping down, the 9900X3D and 9900X feature 12 cores and 24 threads with 120 W TDP, boosting to 5.5 GHz and 5.6 GHz respectively, and 128 MB or 64 MB L3 cache. The 9800X3D offers 8 cores, 16 threads, 96 MB L3 cache, and a 120 W TDP with a 5.2 GHz boost. Lower-power options include the 9700X and 9600X, both at 65 W TDP—the former with 8 cores boosting to 5.5 GHz and 32 MB L3 cache, and the latter with 6 cores reaching 5.4 GHz and the same cache size.

These embedded processors support DDR5 memory and PCIe Gen 5 for high-bandwidth connectivity, while select models integrate RDNA 2-based graphics, reducing the need for discrete GPUs in visualization and control applications. All are compatible with the AM5 socket, facilitating easier integration into existing designs. Looking ahead, AMD plans to release Ryzen PRO Embedded 9000 series variants later this year, which will extend support to up to 10 years and incorporate enterprise-focused features like advanced security and management tools for even more robust deployment in professional settings. The Ryzen Embedded 9000 series is now available through AMD’s embedded product channels, with full specifications detailed on the company’s official embedded processors page.
