Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Remake Set to Drop Before March 31, 2026

The rumor surrounding the Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag remake originated from Ubisoft’s recently released quarterly and half-year financial results for the fiscal year 2025-2026, which were delayed due to the need to “finalize the closing of the semester” as stated by CFO Frederick Duguet. In these financial slides, Ubisoft listed several upcoming titles set to launch before the end of its fiscal year on March 31, 2026, including Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake, The Division: Resurgence, Rainbow Six Mobile, and Anno 117: Pax Romana, but one entry was notably blanked out as an “unannounced game.” According to an exclusive report from Insider Gaming, this unannounced title is the long-rumored remake of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, scheduled for release during the week of March 23, 2026, placing it just before Ubisoft’s fiscal deadline.

Insider Gaming, which has extensively covered the project over the past 18 months, corroborated the information through multiple sources familiar with Ubisoft’s lineup, emphasizing that the remake—often hailed as one of the best entries in the Assassin’s Creed series due to its swashbuckling pirate adventure, open-world Caribbean setting, and naval combat—remains unannounced by Ubisoft despite years of leaks. Rumors first surfaced in June 2023, with further teases including a potential confirmation during a Pure Arts livestream in March 2025 and hints from Edward Kenway’s voice actor, Matt Ryan, in June 2025, after which Ubisoft reportedly threatened legal action against him for the slip. A September 2025 report from Jeux Video Magazine added that the remake will ditch the original’s modern-day sequences in favor of expanded story content focused on the Golden Age of Piracy, incorporate RPG mechanics similar to those in Assassin’s Creed Origins, Odyssey, Valhalla, and Shadows—such as loot systems, gear stats, and inventory management—and include a few hours of new missions for protagonist Edward Kenway.

Ubisoft has yet to make an official announcement, but journalists have previously reported that the game will emphasize RPG mechanics more strongly than the original. This suggests more advanced character progression, story branches, and possibly a reworked combat system. Considering the planned release date and the preparation of an investor report, a full announcement is expected in the coming months.
