ASUS has unveiled the ROG Astral RTX 5090 Real Gold Edition, a bespoke version of the RTX 5090D graphics card that stands as the world’s most expensive GPU, weighing a hefty 7.56 kg and incorporating approximately 5 kg of solid gold for its outer shell, which alone is valued at around half a million dollars. This extravagant creation was developed at the request of ASUS by a Bilibili content creator for a private investor who supplied the gold, transforming what began as a humorous commission into one of the most ambitious modding projects ever featured on the platform. The gold-casting process was arduous, spanning months and involving over ten failed attempts, with each major component—the shroud, backplate, and frame—carefully molded, cast, and hand-polished to perfection. The finished product’s surface boasts a striking combination of sandblasted and polished textures, adorned with engraved auspicious cloud patterns and enamel-filled ROG logos, giving it an opulent, artistic flair befitting its status.

Showcased as a surprise reveal at Bilibili World 2025 in Shanghai, the card will not be available for general purchase on the market, underscoring its exclusivity. Before it could even proceed to a planned auction, a private collector snapped it up directly, with a portion of the proceeds earmarked for donation to Bilibili Charity to support educational initiatives for children in rural areas.

For context, this dwarfs previous gold-themed ASUS offerings, such as the standard RTX 5090 ROG Astral priced at $3,300, or the RTX 5090 ROG Astral Dhahab Edition, which incorporated about 6.5 grams of gold worth roughly $700 and retailed for around $10,000—a signed version of which fetched $24,200 at an earlier charity auction. The intricate build process was documented in a video shared by Tony Yu from ASUS China on Bilibili, highlighting the meticulous craftsmanship behind this $500,000 masterpiece. While technical performance specs like clock speeds or memory configurations aren’t detailed in the reveal, the focus remains on its unparalleled luxury and charitable impact.
