ASUS recently showcased an ultra-premium version of its ROG Astral GeForce RTX 5090 graphics card in China, featuring 5kg of actual gold, with the GPU weighing a total of 7.2kg. This makes it likely the heaviest and most expensive mainstream graphics card ever created. The gold is primarily used in the GPU shroud, significantly increasing its weight compared to standard RTX 5090 models, which typically weigh 2.5–3.0kg. The heatsink is likely made of copper, a costly material itself, adding to the luxurious build.

This version differs from the previously released ROG Astral RTX 5090 Dhahab Edition, which used 6.5g of 999 fineness gold plating and retailed for $6,700–$10,600 in the Middle East. The full-gold version, however, is estimated to cost upwards of $500,000, making it over 80 times pricier than the Dhahab Edition and 250 times more than a standard $2,000 RTX 5090.

Functionally, it retains the high-performance specs of the ROG Astral RTX 5090, including a quad-fan cooling system, patented vapor chamber, increased heatsink fin density, phase-change GPU thermal pad, and boosted clock speeds (up to 2610 MHz in OC mode). These ensure top-tier performance for demanding gaming and creative workloads, leveraging NVIDIA’s Blackwell architecture with 32GB GDDR7 memory, 21,760 CUDA cores, and DLSS 4 technology. However, the design prioritizes opulence over practicality, with an unpolished gold shroud that lacks the refined aesthetic of the Dhahab Edition. This GPU seems aimed at collectors or enthusiasts with extreme budgets, blending cutting-edge tech with extravagant materials
