The Battlefield 6 open beta, launched in August, has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the most-played beta in the Battlefield franchise’s history. With an unprecedented player count, exceptional engagement metrics, and widespread excitement across platforms, the beta has set a new benchmark for the series. This article delves into the details of this record-breaking event, exploring player statistics, community reactions, and the implications for the game’s full release on 10 October.
According to EA and Battlefield Studios, the Battlefield 6 open beta drew more players than any previous beta in the franchise’s history, amassing over 420 million matches played across 92.3 million hours of gameplay during its two beta weekends (August 7–11 and August 14–17, 2025). While EA has not disclosed an exact total player count, estimates suggest over 20 million players participated across all platforms, including Steam, EA App, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
On Steam alone, the beta achieved a peak of 521,079 concurrent players, surpassing the all-time concurrent player record for any Call of Duty title on the platform (491,670 players, set by the unified Call of Duty app in November 2022). This milestone positioned Battlefield 6 as the 18th most-played game in Steam history by concurrent players, an extraordinary feat for a beta.
Early Access Phase (August 7–8, 2025): The beta initially launched in early access, accessible to Battlefield Labs participants, EA Play Pro subscribers, and those who obtained codes via Twitch Drops. Even in this restricted phase, the game reached a peak of 334,549 concurrent players on Steam, doubling the peak of Battlefield 2042‘s beta (156,665 players) and tripling its full-release peak (107,376 players).
Open Beta Phase (August 9–10, 2025): When the beta opened to all players, the player count surged, hitting 473,632 concurrent players by Saturday afternoon (ET) on August 9 and climbing to 520,000+ by Saturday night. This made it the fourth most-played game on Steam during peak hours, trailing only Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2, and PUBG: Battlegrounds.
Second Beta Weekend (August 14–17, 2025): The second weekend maintained high engagement, with EA reporting increased server capacity to reduce queue times, which had reached up to 350,000 players during the first weekend.

EA released a detailed stats recap, providing a glimpse into the scale of player engagement:
Matches Played: 420,127,450
Hours Played: 92,351,578
Enemies Killed: Over 4 billion
Friendlies Revived: Over 30 million
Defibrillator Kills: 7.4 million
Road Kills: 5.3 million
Total Destruction Cost: $196 billion
The beta featured four classes, with the following pick rates:
Assault: 32% (most popular, likely due to its versatile weaponry and gadgets like launchers)
Support: 26% (valued for resupply and healing capabilities)
Engineer: 23%
Recon: 19%
The high pick rate for Assault surprised some, as Support was expected to dominate due to its team utility. However, the “allure of punching enemies with the launcher” proved a significant draw.
The developers thanked the community for their participation and announced that the release of the full version of Battlefield 6 will take place October 10 The scale of the test confirmed the high level of player engagement and interest in the series.
