Cyberpunk 2077 Hits 35 Million in 5 Years, Surpassing The Witcher 3’s 6-Year Sales Milestone

CD Projekt RED announced on November 26, 2025, as part of its Q3 2025 financial results, that Cyberpunk 2077 has now sold over 35 million copies worldwide, a figure that includes both the base game and Ultimate Edition sales counted up to that date. This milestone was reached faster than The Witcher 3 achieved a comparable sales figure in the same post-release timeframe, with CDPR’s CFO Piotr Nielubowicz noting that “Cyberpunk 2077 had reached 35 million copies ahead of The Witcher 3 in the same period since its release,” marking a significant turnaround for the sci-fi RPG that launched disastrously in December 2020 amid bugs, performance issues, a PlayStation Store removal, and widespread refunds after selling over 13 million copies at launch. The game’s recovery was fueled by extensive updates, including the transformative 2.0 overhaul in 2023, the Phantom Liberty expansion which has sold over 10 million copies and recent expansions to new platforms like Nintendo Switch 2, Mac devices, and inclusion of the base edition in PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscriptions since July 2025, driving continued strong back-catalogue performance and making Cyberpunk 2077 CD Projekt RED’s primary source of revenue.

These robust sales contributed to exceptional Q3 2025 financials for the CD PROJEKT Group, with sales revenues hitting 349 million PLN a 53% year-over-year increase and consolidated net earnings reaching 193 million PLN, more than 2.5 times higher than the prior year, yielding a 55% net profitability margin alongside 237 million PLN in positive cash flows from operations and 1.408 billion PLN in cash reserves after dividends and share buybacks. Joint CEO Michał Nowakowski hailed the achievement, stating, “We are very happy and satisfied with the fact that – despite the passage of time – Cyberpunk 2077 remains such a well performing title and continues to attract new players. Sales of the game have exceeded 35 million copies, which testifies to the franchise’s enduring power and enables us to be even more audacious about charting its future.

Nielubowicz added that the results “prove the effectiveness of our games’ lifecycle, which supports sales,” allowing for bold investments totaling 118 million PLN in future projects, including scaling the Cyberpunk sequel (Project Orion) development team from 116 to 135 members as of October 31, 2025, with plans to reach over 300 by 2027 across studios in Boston, Warsaw, and Vancouver—efforts that include new cyberware, a fresh city evoking ‘Chicago gone wrong’ alongside Night City, potential return of Keanu Reeves as Johnny Silverhand, and a release no earlier than 2030. For context, The Witcher 3 has sold over 60 million copies lifetime but took longer to hit equivalent early milestones, underscoring Cyberpunk 2077’s impressive velocity despite its rocky start.
