Lenovo has officially launched the highly anticipated Lenovo Legion Go 2, its second-generation handheld gaming device, at IFA 2025. Building on the success of the original Legion Go and Legion Go S, this new iteration brings significant upgrades, including the powerful AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme chip, an OLED display, and enhanced ergonomics. The Legion Go 2 aims to compete with top-tier handhelds like the ASUS ROG Xbox Ally and MSI Claw A8.

The Lenovo Legion Go 2 is a powerhouse designed for modern PC gaming on the go. At its core is the AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme APU, built on the Zen 5 architecture with RDNA 3.5 graphics featuring 16 compute units (CUs). For those seeking a more budget-friendly option, configurations with the Ryzen Z2 chip, based on Zen 4 architecture with RDNA 3 graphics (12 CUs), are also available. Both processors boast 8 cores and 16 threads, ensuring robust performance for gaming and multitasking.
The display is a standout feature: an 8.8-inch 1200p OLED panel with a 144Hz refresh rate, variable refresh rate (VRR) support, and 500 nits peak brightness with True Black 1000 HDR certification. This is a step up from the original Legion Go’s 1600p IPS display, offering deeper contrast and vibrant colors. The 16:10 aspect ratio and native landscape orientation enhance the immersive gaming experience.
Memory and storage have also been upgraded. The Legion Go 2 comes with 32GB of LPDDR5X-8000 RAM, doubling the 16GB LPDDR5X-7500 of its predecessor. Storage options include a 1TB PCIe Gen4 SSD, with expandable storage up to 2TB via a microSD card slot. These upgrades ensure faster load times and ample space for modern game libraries.

Lenovo has refined the Legion Go 2’s design to be more ergonomic and aesthetically pleasing. The detachable TrueStrike controllers feature Hall effect joysticks to eliminate drift, a redesigned D-pad on a pivot disk for improved precision, and three customizable buttons accessible through Lenovo’s Legion Space software. The controllers support multiple modes, including a console-like experience with a controller dock and a PC-like setup with an FPS stick, making the device a versatile 3-in-1 handheld, tablet, or laptop.

Lenovo has addressed two common pain points of handheld gaming: cooling and battery life. The Legion Go 2 features a reworked cooling system with a larger fan and dual exhaust vents at the bottom and rear, allowing for increased airflow and manual fan control. Early hands-on reports indicate the device maintains steady temperatures between 60°C and 70°C, enabling the Ryzen Z2 Extreme to perform optimally without thermal throttling.
The battery capacity has been significantly increased to 74Whr, up from 49.2Whr in the original Legion Go, promising longer gaming sessions. Paired with a 65W AC adapter and Power Delivery 3.0 support through dual USB 4.0 Type-C ports (both supporting DisplayPort 2.0), the Legion Go 2 offers fast charging and versatile connectivity. Additional I/O includes a 3.5mm combo audio jack and a microSD card reader.
The Lenovo Legion Go 2 starts at $1049 and is expected to be available later in September 2025.
