Bungie has announced the opening of applications for a Closed Technical Test for their upcoming extraction shooter, Marathon, marking an important milestone in the game’s development following several closed playtests conducted since June to gather player feedback. This invite-only playtest is scheduled to run from October 22 to October 28, 2025, and is limited to players in North America and Europe. Participants will have access on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam platforms, with the test operating under a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) to maintain confidentiality around ongoing improvements.
To apply, interested players can fill out the official application form available on Bungie’s website, with submissions accepted from now until October 16, 2025, at 4 PM PT. Notably, individuals who previously applied for the public Alpha in April may find their application automatically submitted without needing further action. For PC players specifically, additional applications will open via Steam on October 13, 2025, at 10 AM PT, and remain available until October 26, 2025, at 4 PM PT. Bungie emphasizes that this test serves as a key checkpoint to evaluate enhancements made since the Alpha phase, including three new maps, five runner shells, proximity chat, re-tuned combat pacing, solo queue options, and deeper environmental storytelling elements.
While the Closed Technical Test build represents a work in progress focused on the early player experience, it will only feature a portion of the full content planned for Marathon’s eventual release. Bungie has outlined minimum system requirements for participants: on consoles, it’s compatible with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, while PC users need at least an Intel Core i5-6600 processor, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti GPU, and 8GB of RAM. The company plans to share a public development update on Marathon in the coming months following the test’s conclusion. For more information, players can visit the official help page.
