Red Dead Redemption is coming to Netflix, iOS, Android, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 on December 2

Rockstar Games has officially announced that the critically acclaimed open-world Western adventure Red Dead Redemption, including its zombie-themed Undead Nightmare expansion, will launch on multiple new platforms on December 2, 2025, marking a significant expansion of the 2010 classic to modern hardware and mobile devices. This port aims to broaden accessibility for both longtime fans and newcomers, especially as anticipation builds for the upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI, by bringing the story of former outlaw John Marston—who is forced by federal agents to hunt down his old gang across the American West and Mexico—to a wider audience without the limitations of backward compatibility.

The game will arrive on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S with substantial enhancements, including 60 FPS gameplay, improved image quality, HDR support, and resolutions scaling up to 4K, providing a smoother and more visually stunning experience than the original PS3 and Xbox 360 versions or even the 2023 PS4 and Nintendo Switch ports. Owners of the digital versions on PS4, Xbox One (via backward compatibility), or the original Nintendo Switch can upgrade to these next-gen editions for free, with seamless carry-over of in-progress saves on PlayStation and Switch to maintain player progress. For Nintendo Switch 2 users, the title will support 60 FPS at high resolutions, DLSS upscaling technology (or equivalent), HDR, and even mouse controls for precise aiming, making it an ideal portable option for on-the-go play while delivering performance comparable to console counterparts.

On mobile fronts, Red Dead Redemption will debut on iOS and Android devices with touch-optimized controls, cloud save syncing for cross-device continuity, and the full single-player campaign plus Undead Nightmare, ensuring the epic narrative remains intact despite smaller screens. Notably, Netflix subscribers can access the game at no additional cost through Netflix Games on compatible mobile devices starting the same day, leveraging the streaming service’s growing gaming ecosystem to offer seamless, ad-free play tied to an existing membership—though initial reports briefly mentioned a December 4 rollout before alignment with other platforms. This integration highlights a push toward cloud and subscription-based gaming, though potential challenges like device performance variability and streaming latency may affect the experience on lower-end hardware.

Developed in collaboration with studios Double Eleven and Cast Iron Games, this multi-platform release builds on the game’s legacy since its original 2010 debut, where it earned widespread praise for its storytelling, immersive world, and moral complexity as a predecessor to the blockbuster Red Dead Redemption 2. While no specific pricing has been detailed for standalone purchases on consoles or mobile outside of Netflix, the free upgrade paths and subscription inclusions underscore Rockstar’s strategy to revitalize older titles amid evolving gaming landscapes, potentially fostering renewed community discussions and multiplayer-like social features through cross-save capabilities. Rumors of Red Dead Redemption 2 ports for similar platforms in 2025 persist separately, but this announcement focuses squarely on the first installment’s broadened reach.
