Recent rumors about GTA 6 possibly coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 are getting a lot of attention. Many gamers are talking about it because well-known leakers, including NateTheHate, have shared reports that make the rumor seem more believable. According to NateTheHate, Rockstar Games has been conducting tests to determine if the ambitious open-world title can feasibly run on the upcoming Switch 2 hardware, an effort he first heard about some time ago. However, he has repeatedly emphasized that such experimentation does not equate to active development or a guaranteed port, as companies routinely probe hardware limits without committing to a release—citing past examples like Rockstar’s unsuccessful tests for GTA V on the Wii U. This speculation aligns with broader industry chatter, including claims from Twitter user Nash Weedle, who asserted that a Switch 2 version is in the works but would not launch alongside the confirmed PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S editions on November 19, 2026, and that the game’s recent delay from its original 2025 target has nothing to do with Nintendo’s console.
Reece “Kiwi Talkz” Reilly, who has also repeated that a Switch 2 version of Red Dead 2 has been in development, shared his thoughts. The interviewer quoted Nate and added that it “doesn’t mean anything” as “Rockstar tested putting GTA V on Wii U and that went nowhere.” Many people have wondered why GTA V, the second best selling game of all time, is still not on Switch 1 which is one of the best selling consoles of all time for example. Furthermore, Reilly tells us “Devs test putting games on hardware all the time, don’t take it as confirmation that it is happening.” In another tweet, Reilly says he is “skeptical” of Weedle’s original claim. He spoke with several Rockstar developers, and none of them mentioned a Switch 2 version of GTA VI. However, at least eight did tell him about Red Dead Redemption 2 coming to Switch 2.
Nintendo hasn’t officially announced the Switch 2 yet, but leaks say it’ll be much stronger than the first Switch and could run tough games like Cyberpunk 2077 if they’re tweaked right. Rockstar hasn’t put many of their games on Nintendo before—GTA 5 never came to the original Switch, though a remade GTA collection did, but it had lots of bugs at first that got fixed later. If GTA 6 does make it to Switch 2, it could be a huge deal for Nintendo fans, maybe coming in late 2026 or 2027 after the other versions are out, to give time for fixes. But the Switch 2’s weaker processor might mean the game looks a bit simpler or runs slower to fit. Right now, it’s all just rumors based on these tests. There’s no official confirmation from Rockstar or Nintendo yet.
